Why did I buy this product?
Prior to getting my hands on the AHA BHA peeling solution, I had been using a BHA cleanser and toner in my routine so to some extent my skin was familiar with exfoliating acids. However, after hearing so much about the famous vampire facial peeling solution, like every skincare junkie, I decided to join the bandwagon. Another reason why I got this was for aesthetics, I’m a huge sucker for products that are beautiful to photograph and this product is super pleasing to the eye.
I have oily acne prone skin and salycylic acid works great for me. However, I was curious to see how a combination of AHAs and BHA would work on my skin.
According to Deciem:
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) exfoliate the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxy acids (BHA) also exfoliate the skin with an extended function to help clear pore congestion. This combined 32% AHA/BHA solution offers deeper exfoliation to help fight visible blemishes and for improved skin radiance. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines with continued use.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepper berry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. This formula is further supported with a crosspolymer form of hyaluronic acid for comfort, Vitamin B5 to assist healing and black carrot as an antioxidant.
Putting it to Work
On the very first day I used the aha bha peeling solution I experienced a slight stinging on my face. The stinging is quite normal and didn’t last very long. However, I made sure to do a patch test on the back of my palm before applying directly to my face.
Learn how to do a patch test here.
After applying it to my dry face, I left it on for 10 minutes as instructed( NEVER LEAVE IT ON FOR MORE THAN TEN MINUTES I’M BEGGING YOU) and washed it off with warm water.
Some people advise that you wash off the solution with a cleanser to ensure there’s no residue left on your face. However, I did not do this because I used a toner afterwards and then carried on with my serums and moisturizer.
Immediately I washed off the solution my face surely felt smoother and brighter. The very next day I carried out my regular morning skincare routine and made sure to apply sunscreen. Exfoliating acids WILL MAKE YOUR SKIN EXTRA SENSITIVE TO THE SUN. Therefore always ensure you use sunscreen daily. It is a non-negotiable when using this product.
I continued using this product for months (off and on because I had other acids in my routine) and it worked pretty well with no side effects at all. My skin was smoother and brighter and breakouts were kept at bay.

Although, the brand directs that this product can be used twice a week, In my experience and based on research using this ONCE a week and perhaps TWICE a month is best. This is because direct acids work very fast and the results are very quickly visible hence over use can damage your skin and sensitize it. Ideally exfoliation (both physical and chemical) should not be done more than twice a week, it’s skin not porcelain. Treat it gently!
Also, on nights when I used this product I always ensured that I focused more on hydrating and moisturizing my skin afterwards so as to avoid possible irritation while maintaining a healthy skin barrier. I also avoided using retinoids in the same routine. Not to say that you can’t use AHAs, BHAs and Retinoids in the same routine however when it comes to skincare LESS IS MORE!!!
- The Ordinary AHA BHA peeling solution is a great chemical exfoliant that can help to fade acne scars and brighten dark spots while minimizing excess oil, and preventing breakouts.
- It is best used by people who have built a tolerance for skincare acids. If you have never used a chemical exfoliant this shouldn’t be your go-to. You can opt for a product that has one exfoliant like a salycylic acid cleanser or a glycolic acid toner. There are so many other options honestly.
- Always do a patch test before using this product. Ideally you should patch test before using anything on your skin.
- If any redness, burning, itching, blistering or irritation is observed within 24 hours of the patch test, do not use the product.o
- Do not leave this product on your skin for more than 10 MINUTES
- Do not use this product more than TWICE a week. Start with ONCE a week and build tolerance.
- You can also store this product in the fridge to preserve it. However take note that it has a shelf life of 12 months so try to use it up within a year.
