The new culture of skincare is HERE!
Rihanna may not be serving us music anytime soon yet we are totally here for the launch of FENTY SKIN!
It’s official Rihanna is finally serving us some skincare goodies, in a few days July 31st, 2020 to be precise, and we are definitely here for it.

The Barbadian-American singer and beauty mogul has pretty much closed the chapter on music to take on the fashion and beauty world and we aren’t mad about it.
Since the launch of FENTY BEAUTY in 2017, Rihanna fans had begun predicting the release of a skincare line.
Omg since @fentybeauty launched in 2017 there was talks of a skin care line. And finally it’s 2020 and #FENTYSKIN is alive😆😆😆. And you bitches keep asking where an album at, meanwhile @rihanna be killing it as a #black #female #entrepreneur

Fenty Skin Review by Tiara Willis
I’ve been using the Fenty Skin products for about a month now. Read this thread before making a purchase.
First off, I would like to say a huge thank you to @fentyskin for letting me try the products! The Fenty team has always been so supportive of me when it comes to makeup, so I feel very honored that I get to try Fenty SKINCARE now 🤩 support black women in skincare all 2020
Next, ALL of the Fenty Skin products have fragrance. It’s a floral sweet smell. You will notice it. This can be problematic for some. Fragrance sensitizes the skin due to its volatile properties (even in small amounts), which is why it’s the #1 cause of contact dermatitis.
Fragrance can cause you to have a reaction now (which happened to me) or it can happen over time with continued use. I have always been sensitive to fragrance on my face, so the Fenty Skin products broke me out in small red bumps and my face stung 🙁
I have dry, sensitive, acne-prone skin for reference! I was so hurt y’all. I hope they come out with a fragrance-free version. Because I love EVERYTHING else about the Fenty Skin line. The ingredients, the texture, the packaging — beautiful. Let me tell you why:
TOTAL CLEANS’R REMOVE-IT-ALL CLEANSER
This is a gel to cream cleanser. It claims to remove makeup well, but I found that I still needed to double cleanse esp for my mascara. It does not strip the skin at all 😍 Rich in antioxidants that nourish the skin. Contains fragrance

If I were to try the products again, it would probably be the cleanser. It is fragranced and the smell is quite noticeable BUT because the contact time is shorter, you’re less likely to have a reaction vs. leave-on products like the toner and SPF.
FAT WATER PORE-REFINING TONER + SERUM
I am so mad my skin hates this. Everything besides the fragrance is so good for me 😭 The 2nd ingredient is witch hazel which is an astringent, but the OVERALL FORMULA is a very hydrating gel consistency. It’s like an essence.

The 4th ingredient of the toner is Niacinamide which is one of my favorites. Niacinamide brightens the skin, reduces oil control, and refines pores. The rest of the formula is very rich in antioxidants which are great at nourishing and fighting free radicals
Free radicals can cause hyperpigmentation so I love that they came out with a product that uses antioxidants to reduce oxidative stress + Niacinamide to brighten. Hyperpigmentation is a huge concern for darker skin types.
HYDRA VIZOR INVISIBLE MOISTURIZER + SPF
Zero casts. Rubs in BEAUTIFULLY. The consistency is sort of similar to black girl sunscreen, but not as thick. The chemical sunscreen ingredients of choice are avobenzone, homosalate, and octisalate.

I’ve opted to use the sunscreen on my body instead of my face. The skin on your body is usually more resilient and less sensitive than your face. The SPF has the strongest smell out of the 3 which is cute for the body. I still like smelling good, but not on my face 😭
And these products contain artificial fragrance! Parfum. The smell isn’t just from the fruit extracts that are used as antioxidants
I was lowkey scared to post this because I would literalllllyyy give Rihanna the world if I could. I would fight anyone that says something bad about her 😭 But unfortunately these products didn’t work for me due to the fragrance.
I hope that the brand takes this feedback and maybe we will see fragrance free alternatives in the future for the sensitive skin peeps like myself 🙂 But we’re supporting regardless
Wait wait!!! The sunscreen is a chemical sunscreen. Let me add: chemical sunscreens can be irritating for some and sting your eyes. Sensitive, acne-prone people should beware of that too
Side note: not everyone will have a reaction to fragrance! It’s not common when you look at the entire world population. But it does happen which is why your prescription products & recommendations from your dermatologist are always fragrance-free
The fragrance is added to mask the scents of other ingredients + for branding! They want to have a signature smell for the brand. Skincare is an experience too. But this can also be done using non-fragrant extracts! Cucumber, watermelon, mango, shea butter – smell yummy

WANSHYGIRLS’ THOUGHTS ON FENTY SKIN
After reading from the skincare experts and looking through the ingredients list here’s what I have to say about FENTY SKIN.
First off, I love that all three products fit into the important steps of a skincare routine.
There’s a cleanser, a hydrating toner, and a moisturizer that doubles as a sunscreen.
I also love that each product contains essential antioxidants like niacinamide, green tea, quince, ginkgo biloba which can help brighten the skin, control oil production, and equally protect your skin from free radicals present in the environment.
However, the products are also fragranced and this could be problematic for people with sensitive skin or those who are against fragrance in skincare. To be frank, fragrance isn’t necessary for skincare. This is because it can be sensitizing. New York esthetician, Tiara Willis explains it all in her twitter thread below:
Fragrance can cause you to have a reaction now (which happened to me) or it can happen over time with continued use. I have always been sensitive to fragrance on my face, so the Fenty Skin products broke me out in small red bumps and my face stung 🙁
— Tiara Willis 🙂 (@MakeupForWOC) July 28, 2020
Finally, I love that the moisturizer doubles as a sunscreen. It is also white cast free, great for all skin types, and environment friendly. Personally, I’d prefer to use a stand-alone sunscreen alongside this because it is important to constantly re-apply, and considering the price, this isn’t a product I would want to use that often.
Also, your entire body not only your face needs SPF, hence you need another sunscreen for your body.
THE PRICE
For a budget-nista like myself, the price point for these products is definitely high-end. The three products cost $88 which is about N40,480 NAIRA using N460 as the DOLLAR exchange rate this isn’t inclusive of shipping down to Nigeria.
Hence, will I be purchasing when it finally launches and probably retailed in Nigeria? I doubt it, yet, if I do get my hands on it either as a gift or PR package I’m totally trying it out.
These FENTY SKIN products have also made me curious about ingredients such as Barbados cherry (acerola), Quince, and Ginkgo biloba. I’ll be doing my research and definitely sharing with you all my lovely readers
Whilst we await the official launch to the market, here’s what Fenty Skin Ambassador and Licensed Esthetician, Sean Garette has to say about the product.
Also, read this detailed review by a cosmetic scientist, Michelle of Lab Muffin.
If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading. I’d love to hear what you think.
